In fact, Tekek is the main spot where you can find a lot of shops selling duty-free goods, health facilities and the airport too.

If you are coming in by ferry, the main jetty is located very close to the town centre and that is where you will be welcomed by the beautiful beach-side of Tioman Island complete with a series of Casuarina trees. All along the trail, you will come to see several interesting places to eat, some shops and a few resorts to stay in.

Within Tekek, there is a road (which is quite worn out) that connects you with the hotspots around the island. This makes a great option to rent a bike or a bicycle where you can hop on and off as you like. One thing to note though is that there are cars and vans here which is where they are mostly congregated in the island. From Tekek town, you can trail towards Air Batang or to Juara Village towards the opposite end of the island.

Salang Village

The beaches around Salang is possibly the most renowned ones in Tioman Island. Located at the northern parts of the island along a small bay here, the jetty is where all the action can be found. Besides that, there are a numerous shops, restaurants, hotels and resorts around the vicinity with Salang Village being divided through the jetty and the lagoon.

If you are here for the action, the northern area is where you want to be but if it is the peace of the beach you are looking for then head to the opposite direction. What you will notice here is its holiday village and resort environment with no sign of crowd or congestion. The scenic view of people playing on the beach under the sun with a lot of chattering and music will be what you are looking for in a perfect beach getaway.

Swimming is best around the southern side where the soft-textured sand gives you the best of what you can expect while the northern side is a bit too rocky during the low tide, making it difficult to go for a swim. Besides that, snorkelling and other water sports are quite popular in the southern side but it can get quite crowded during the peak season.

Panuba Beach

Panuba Beach can be very enticing if you are looking for peace and tranquillity in your vacation, typically your objective when visiting Tioman Island. Panuba is actually part of the private beach operated by the Panuba Inn Resort which is located around the north western side of the island. What you get here when you approach Panuba is stilt-strewn structure and some local-design huts which makes you want to relax almost immediately. Put that on with the soft and white sands, tall trees and its isolated location and you can really destress completely.

From the resort, you are welcomed with the scent of the fresh breeze sweeping in from the coast with the coral-coloured water gushing by. From here, you can take your usual beach-side strolls under the tropical sun or take a sea taxi to nearby villages. If you are adventurous and up for the challenge, there are jungle trails that take you there as well.

Otherwise, you can take a short walk through the jungle footpath which will get you to Ayer Batang Village. Towards the north is where you will come to a beach which is practically inhabited while Salang Village and Monkey Bay are both nearby as well.

Paya Village

Along the populous western coast of Tioman Island is Paya Village. It is between most of the major villages of the island where you can reach here via the passenger boat that connects Mersing town with the likes of Tekek and Salang.

Naturally, Paya Village is very much the same as other villages in Tioman Island. In fact, it is known to be one of the better beaches in the island because it has an excellent view of the mountain. Paya, which means swamp in the local language is merely a name as it is anything but one. In fact, having your holiday in Paya Village means that you get the chance to stay within some of the most beautiful and rustic places with the village and beach side as company.

From Paya Village, you can actually see Mount Kajang which is the highest peak in Tioman Island measured at 1,038 meters above sea-level. Besides the sun, sea and sand, you actually get to explore the mountain through the ascending and descending points of Mount Kajang from here while talking a half-hour walk through the jungle would get you to Bunot beach which can be quite a breath-taking and amazing sight.
